Verner Panton

Verner Panton
Verner Panton is an iconic Danish designer who has created a reputation for experimentation and exuberant originality. Whilst at the forefront of modern Danish design, Panton was not afraid to embrace new materials, use bold colours or create sculptural designs with a strong graphical expression.

Panton was anything but mainstream and his designs have emerged as contemporary design classics. For example, the Verpan Fun collection , which has been described as his greatest masterpiece. This collection of pendant lights use a seashell material that diffuses the light in a unique way whilst also producing an iconic chiming sound when air is in motion. This is a clear example of how Verner Panton re-imagines products to create beautiful yet functional solutions to everyday challenges. Panton explains his motivation behind his designs is to,

'provoke people into using their imagination. By experimenting with lighting, colours, textiles and furniture and utilizing the latest technologies, I try to show new ways, to encourage people to use their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting'”.

This motivation to 'provoke' has lead to Verner Panton putting Denmark on the world map for functional, modern and unique design. It is said that his designs are just as strikingly inventive now as they were 50 years ago. This is clear when looking at designs such as the Verpan Hive or the Verpan VP Globe which have sleek modern and almost futuristic aesthetics which would suit any 21st century interior.
