Northern was originally founded in 2005 in Oslo by Ove Rogne, as an independent and truly local design company, with a global perspective in mind. Rogne was driven by a passion for creative work and a visionary approach to design, and the company's foundation was built on an ambition to infuse more brilliance and creativity into the lighting industry. Northern's tagline is 'From Oslo With Love', highlighting the importance of their heritage and their capital city. A city with friendly and diverse people, filled with talent and vibrant elements of coolness and change, yet also peace and calmness.

Their team crafts and promotes new design ideas and supports talents when they discover them. Northern believes that interiors should be personal, and they prioritise genuine craftsmanship.
