Design Classic – The Flos Arco
Designed in 1962 by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni the Flos Arco floor lamp has gone on to be one of the most iconic lamps of our time.
The beautiful high quality polished aluminium domed shade is balanced on a white carrara marble base which weighs over 65Kilos. The lamps stainless steel height adjustable stem has a satin-finish which can be swivelled and with the switch located on the power cord it can be conveniently turned on and off using your foot.
The stunning lamp can be adapted for any living or working environment and is now available in an LED version which is fitted with the most advanced and high performance lighting technology.
"We were thinking about a lamp that shines light onto a table. They already existed, but you had to walk round them. To leave enough space around the table, the base had to be at least two meters away. Which was how the idea for Arco came into being. In Arco nothing is decorative: even the beveled corners on the base have a function, which is not to hurt us; even the hole isn’t a flight of fantasy, but to make it easier to lift the base.” Achille Castiglioni 1970

New In from Flos Lighting
One of our favourite brands Flos has released the newest arrivals to their collection and we introduce them to you below!
The Superloon Floor reflects the style of the moon with a ring of LED’s which send light across a flat translucent disc. Fitted on a gyroscopic axis the light can be directed in infinite directions. The light intensity and temperature can be adjusted using the optical sensor which is located on one of the legs. The Superloon’s light temperature can be dimmed from warm to very warm making it ideal as a reading lamp available in a black, white or chrome finish.
The Serena Table lamp is neither brash nor imposing but is a lightweight simple design which is inspired by the natural world. The leaf shaped design is available in three finishes, black, chrome or copper with the playful diffuser reflecting or allowing the light to pass through creating the perfect mood.
The BonJour Table designed by Philippe Starck is a timeless piece fitted with the latest technology. The transparent base and shade is available in numerous interchangeable finishes and materials making it customisable for every taste. The LED light source is incorporated into the hat which is placed on the body creating a beautiful elegant lamp.

Flos’s Most loved – The Glo-ball
The Flos Glo-ball collection was designed by Jasper Morrison in 1998, the simple concept behind the Glo-ball family is to obtain the maximum diffusion of light which is achieved by the use of hand-blown, etched white opaline glass.
The Lamp is formed from a globe which appears flattened and produces the radiant calm of a full moon. The Glo-Ball comes in a pendant and wall version as well as unstemmed and stemmed table and floor versions; when fitted with a halogen or compatible LED bulb they are dimmable.
The Glo Ball ceiling is attached via a large internal threaded ring so removing it for cleaning or to change the bulb is easy.
The design of the Glo-Balls means they always look beautiful when lit, providing a clean, soft white light. They look good either on their own or when clustered together.

Flos’s Most loved – The SkyGarden
The Flos SkyGarden was designed in 2007 by renowned designer Marcel Wanders. The inspiration behind the design was from his former home which had a fabulous antique decorated plaster ceiling which he called his SkyGarden. It didn’t need any sun or water and he loved it so much that when he moved home, he stole it from the ceiling and moved it with him.
The Flos Skygarden is a beautiful hemispherical pendant with a plaster diffuser painted white inside with six outer finishes Rust, Glossy Black, Glossy White, Matte Gold, Silver or Copper.
The lamp makes a powerful impression with its sheer size and the intricate inner floral design which gives the piece its name.
Previous winner of both the Elle Decoration International Design Awards (EDIDA) and the Red Dot Award in 2008 the pendant makes an impact both placed alone or in a design with others.

New In From Flos Lighting
Flos is forever providing us with innovative and original lights and their latest releases are no different.
Captain Flint Floor Lamp
The Captain Flint Floor Lamp was designed by Michael Anastassiades in 2015 who wanted to create a lamp with a dual purpose. The lamp provides an adjustable direct light which can be rotated to create the feel of a table lamp, perfect for reading. The steam and spinning cone shade is finished in either painted steel or brushed brass and with either a black or white marble base. The lamp is fitted with a dimmer switch making creating ambience in a room easy.
Flos Extra T Table Lamp
Another light designed by Michael Anastassiades is the Flos Extra T Table Light. The light incorporates both a glowing light sphere and a rectangular back base as Anastassiades wanted to encapture the frozen moment of the sphere about to roll off the edge of the table. The lamp creates a diffused light with a painted or anodized aluminium body and hand-blown opal glass diffuser.
Taccia Small Table
The original Taccia table was designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giancomo Castiglioni. Now in 2016 it has been re-invented in a new smaller size with the latest LED technology. The lamp provides both indirect and reflected light which illuminates a living space perfectly. The reflector is painted aluminium with gloss on the inside and matt white on the outside. The lamp body is available is either black, anodised silver, anodised violet or anodised bronze.
Shade Ceiling Lamp
The Shade Floor/Suspension light redefines the idea of the lampshade having a fixed perspective. The Shade offers a warm ambient light with a feel of surrealism. The feel of the floating shade is made by avoiding the conventional way of using mains power from the ceiling and instead uses an LED floor fitting to shine an upward light into the white paper shade, with invisible wires attached to both the ceiling and the black aluminium floor light source.

In March’s issue of Elle Decoration Editor Michelle Ogundehin discusses the idea of grey being the new neutral. Over the last few years neutrals have turned their connotations from boring dull shades to now express high end style. In the mist of that, grey is also now going against the ideas of being an old age, cold colour and is now one which is seen to easily fit into your interior giving you a step up from whites and neutrals.

ELLE Decoration Fought the Fakes and Won!
Elle Decoration’s hottest article this month looks at the battle of copycat designers in the industry. In 2012 ELLE Decoration launched their ‘Equal Rights for Design’ petition which stated Britain as the designer knock-off capital of Europe.
They took their campaign to the government and won, bringing copyright protection inline with other creative disciplines such as music and literature.
Despite the victory the law will not come into place until January 2017 giving the faux designer’s time to sell their stock.
So what does this mean for the British design market? Now the original designers will get the recognition that they deserve and gain a copyright protection similar to other creative disciplines after their passing.
