Product Description

Akari 50EN Pendant by Vitra

Handcrafted in the Ozeki workshop, the 50EN is part of vitra's Akari Light Sculptures. Originally designed in 1951, by Isamu Noguchi, the Akari lights were named after the Japanese word for 'light'. The luminaire has a bamboo frame, which will in turn determine the suspension's shape, and has washi paper glued on. The paper is locally sourced, from the bark of mulberry trees. Each light can take up to 6 hours to complete.

For over 70 years, the Akari Sculpture lights have been manufactured by artisans in a workshop in Goku, Japan. The Akari 50EN is a modern solution, throughout the decades and brings a soft and warm light. Install in high or low-ceiling spaces, in hallways or over dining areas.
