Moooi Smoke Dining Armchair

For the Smoke Dining Armchair, designer Maarten Baas managed to capture the beauty of burned and charred wood inside a long-lasting material. As part of his graduation project from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Baas created a collection of chairs and a single chandelier light using burnt wood. It was a study of beauty and perfection, focusing on the ever-changing beauty within nature. To create the Smoke Dining Armchair, the wooden frame is set on fire and left to burn, smoulder, and eventually char. The wood is then treated with thick epoxy resin to keep it firm while maintaining its charred appearance.
