Artemide IN-EI Issey Miyake

Japanese designer Issey Miyake collaborated with his research and development team, Reality Lab, to create the IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE Collection. Translated from Japanese, IN-EI means shadow, shadiness, and nuance. This term beautifully reflects the tone of the collection, which is characterised by the light and shadows created by carefully considered folds on each lamp. Issey Miyake originally applied this intricate folding process to produce an innovative clothing line. Following its success, Miyake explored potential in areas beyond clothing, experimenting with new textiles and techniques to produce the IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE lighting collection for Artemide.

The IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE Collection features a Floor Lamp, Table Lamp, and two Suspensions. Each lampshade is crafted from recycled materials, which are folded to create a form that is statuesque as well as solid. Additional surface treatment adds to the shade’s durability, allowing it to keep its shape without the need for an internal frame while maintaining the ability to be re-shaped if required. When illuminated, light is diffused into a soft glow that surrounds the lamp, while the gentle folds allow light and shade to harmoniously alternate. The IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE Collection adds a sculptural presence to any space, complementing residential and commercial spaces alike.
