Maija LED Pendant Light by Santa & Cole

The Maija pendant was designed in 1955 by Ilmari Tapiovaara, a Finnish designer who always looked to nature for inspiration: "It is impossible to create a new object without a point of reference, and nature is the best and closest manual for the industrial designer. Whether in terms of the object’s purpose, that is, its functional requirements; or in terms of shape, colour, material and adequate proportion.”

The Maija design is inspired by the environment in Baltic cities, where street illumination is bare and most light comes from house and shop windows. Tapiovaara evokes this lighting by creating a honeycomb structure made from metal discs that casts a beautiful glowing light.

The Maija pendant lamp is available in a nude rose or white colour finish and in two sizes, the smaller Maija 15 or the larger Maija 30. The pendant comes with an integrated LED light source and is suitable to be used as an ambient light, whether used alone or in multiple.
