Louis Poulsen AJ Eklipta

Originally designed in 1956 by Arne Jacobsen for Rødovre Town Hall, the Louis Poulsen AJ Eklipta remains a benchmark of architectural lighting, simple in form, precise in function. The circular glass design features a mouth-blown opal diffuser mounted to a discrete aluminium or metal base, casting soft, even light that appears to glow from within. Originally used indoors on stairwells and outdoors as wall lamps, the AJ Eklipta has since found its place in both private homes and public institutions worldwide, appreciated for its quiet elegance and glare-free glow.

Available in multiple sizes, including the smaller Ø220 developed for St. Catherine’s College in Oxford and the larger Ø450 preferred by Jacobsen himself, the AJ Eklipta can be mounted on walls or ceilings and adapted for both indoor and outdoor use. The diffused, ambient light lends itself to a range of applications, from corridor and entrance lighting to patio walls, façades, and modern interiors. With integrated LED options and an enduring minimalist silhouette, the AJ Eklipta is as relevant today as it was when first conceived, an icon of Scandinavian design purity.
