Milk NA1 Table Lamp by &Tradition

&Tradition’s Milk NA1 – their first collaboration with Danish firm Norm Architects – is a quirky yet nonetheless attractive table lamp which plays with our expectations of classic Nordic design.

With Milk, company founders Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen have condensed their whole design philosophy into a bedside-sized package. Their search for ‘balance between richness and restraint’ and their desire to ‘build on the past while looking forward’ has led them to create a lamp which is as much a tribute to the foundations of Danish Modernism as it is an attempt to shake them up.

The formula will be recognisable to anyone who has ever skimmed through the pages of Scandinavian design history – functionality and minimalism without sacrificing style – but the expression is unique: a milk-white, mouth-blown borosilicate glass shade sits atop three solid ash legs, resembling a kind of miniature milking stool, a humorous take on an otherwise serious and highly effective set of principles.

Rønn and Bjerre-Poulsen wanted to design a lamp that could be 'placed in all corners of the home to create a cosy atmosphere.’ It is hard to think of a more apt description of Milk, a lamp which is as comfortable on your desk as it on a shelf or side table, and whose soft, dimmable light is sure to make you just as comfortable yourself.
