A feature of the Lucenera 506 floor lamp is the rod at the back of the shade that can be pushed in and pulled outwards to increase or decrease the light intensity and beam. by pulling back on the rod you can decrease the beam and focus on an area with increased intensity. However, when pushed forward, the rod pushes the bulb to the end of the tubular shade and, in turn, increases the size of the beam for a wider area of brightness.
