from David Village Lighting
Martinelli Luce is an Italian lighting manufacturer, specialising in technological and modular solutions. The company was founded in 1950 by Elio Martinelli, who, for years leading up to this period, had been creating lamps for theatre sets. These lamps boasted scenic forms that interacted with the theatrical action; his designs were technical-decorative: they linked to the set design and integrated with the stage project. It was Giò Ponti who noticed the high quality of his work, pushing him to sell them. Eventually, within a basement called "laboratory". It was there, driven by a clear vision and a desire for creative independence, that Martinelli Luce was born. The company then moved from the workshop to new premises outside the city, gradually becoming a hub for technical experimentation, where it adopted innovative materials and tested new manufacturing methods.
The company loves the beauty of nature and geometric shapes, weaving the themes into their designs. They collaborate with a range of unique designers and have now been producing lighting solutions for over 70 years. The brand's key focuses include dynamic lighting, essential forms, material and process research, and passionate experimentation. These values have always set Martinelli Luce apart from other brands, turning a small family business into a globally recognised brand for its contribution to contemporary design. Today, more than 70 years after it was founded, Martinelli Luce is led by Emiliana Martinelli and her son Marco. Their focus on creative innovation has earned them various awards throughout this time, including the IF Product Design Award, the Good Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award and even a Compasso d'Oro.
