Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984) was one of Denmarks most iconic architects, and the driving force behind Danish modernism. Lauritzen graduated from the Copenhagen based Royal Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 1921, before going on to found his own architecture firm the following year.

Lauritzen believed architecture should be treated as an applied art that serves everybody, not just a select few; meanwhile he took great inspiration from his study trips to Spain and Greece.

His beliefs surrounding design as well as his clear understanding of space and form helped to push him forward in his field of work, resulting in his designs being classed as iconic across the globe - Lauritzen was always determined that his work should be his legacy, not his personality.

"There is no life without aesthetics.” - Vilhelm Lauritzen
