Jorgen and Nanna Ditzen met whilst studying at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen and both began their careers very young. In 1946 they founded their own design studio, where they focused their efforts on crafting unique pieces that utilised innovative materials. Their most iconic design was the basket egg chair, a perfect example of the pair's amount of experimentation and their refusal to shy away from challenging familiar materials and craft methods. In 1954 they designed a line of luxurious jewellery that was awarded with a gold medal at Milan’s Triennale in 1954 and with the Lunning Prize in 1956.

In many ways, Jorgen and Nanna's designs aimed to discover new shapes and functions, labelled as representing free play in the field. The couple wanted to develop furniture that supported a freer and richer life. The duo designed together from 1946 - 1961 when Jorgen sadly passed away, Nanna spent a period in London before opening her own design studio in Copenhagen, where she designed beautiful furniture pieces and jewellery until 2005.

"Three steps forward and two back still means I’ve taken a step in the right direction” - Nanna Ditzen
