Angelo Mangiarotti was an Italian designer, born on February 26 1921, in Milan. Mangiarotti studied Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, where he graduated in 1948 and soon after headed out to the US, where he carried out his professional activity from 1953-1954. During his time in America, Angelo Mangiarotti participated in the competition for the Chicago “LOOP” and met a lot of influential figures, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, and Mies van der Rohe.
His work tends to highlight the intrinsic properties of each object and utilises architectural aesthetics. Mangiarotti also attributes a very special role to plastic research in his design activity.
After returning from the US, Angelo Mangiarotti opened his own firm in the heart of Milan alongside Bruno Morassutti. His work here came to an end in 1960, nd Mangiarotti went on to open the Mangiarotti & Associates Office, based in Tokyo, in 1989. And from 1986 to 1992, he was also the art director of Colle Cristalleria. Alongside his professional design work, Mangiarotti taught at Italian and foreign Universities. His work was also published in a variety of books, specialised magazines, and newspapers.
