DCW éditions from David Village Lighting

Founded in 1921 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments.  The original GRAS lamp, as it was named after its creator, was surprisingly simple, robust and very ergonomic design. The functional aesthetic and design of details such as the arms, stems, brackets and bases were truly original and far ahead of its time. Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps and became one of Bernard-Albin GRAS’s most enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world.

New DCWeditions online

It’s almost been two years since we began working with DCWeditions and our initial thoughts about the quality and design of their products has been confirmed. We have been delighted with their range and professional attitude.

We have recently added some new DCW collections online which bring a modern touch to their nostalgic designs.

Here Comes the Sun

DCW éditions

Here Comes the Sun was first designed in 1970 by French architect, Bertrand Balas. The lamps name was inspired by a song by the icons of pop culture at the time, The Beatles. The design at first glance is like any other but when on it gives out a magical glow.

Here comes the sun is available in a range of sizes and looks beautiful hung alone or in a cluster to create a statement piece.

In the Sun

DCW éditions

The In The Sun Collection was designed to pay homage to the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Designed by Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost the family radiates hues of gold and silver and cast soft shadows of light.

Whether wall-mounted, as a ceiling lamp or hanging, the result is consistently magical.

In the Tube

DCW éditions

The In The Tube collection adds a softer more decorative tube light to DCW. Designed again by Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot‑Prévost the collections objective was to be timeless, durable and of high-performance. The family is available in several lengths, diameters and colours.

Biny

DCW éditions

The Biny collection was designed in 1957 by Jacques Biny and still today remains resolutely modern. He was a thorough man who never stopped in his quest to improve how homes where lit.

Functionality was key and he incorporated blinds into the Biny table lamp in order to direct the light onto a surface where needed.

Lampe Gras - Le mobilier de Gras

19 August 2016 Permalink

Lampe Gras

Founder of Lampe Gras, Bernard-Albin Gras never designed furniture; his passion was for lamps for use in offices and industrial environments.

So what is Le mobilier de Gras? Translated into English it means the Gras range of furniture.

Lampe Gras

(Plug and Dream)

It’s the start of something new for Lampe Gras yet is in keeping with their traditional designs.

The collection has been designed to serve the person who is using it, focusing on it being functional, resistant and serviceable.

 Lampe Gras

(Plug and Work)

Similar to Lampe Gras traditional designs the furniture range can be deflective from its original function. For example the Plug and Dream can become a welcome to an entrance and the Plug and Work can become a freestanding counter prefect for drinks.

Designed to stand the test of time and wear but not to show its age, the Le mobilier de Gras range is created using simple but solid materials; steel, wood and rubber.

Lampe Gras and a Collection to rave about – MANTIS

8 July 2016 Permalink

Lampe Gras

Designer Bernard Schottlander was born in 1924 in Mainz, Germany and in 1939 he moved to England. After learning to weld whilst serving with the British Army in India, Schottlander began a successful career in the design industry. In the late 1950’s he established a workshop in north London and soon after in 1951 Schottlander created the ‘MANTIS’ series of lamps.

Lampe Gras

Movement is intrinsic to the collection with a clever system of counterweights combined with strong and flexible metals bars. The shade is unique. Like an acrobat suspended mid-air, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are part of the metalworker’s inventory of skills. Schottlander has brought his sculptors eye to create a helical movement in which the symmetrical and asymmetrical are in opposition.

Lampe Gras

The Mantis collection is formed of table, floor, wall and ceiling Lamps.

Lampe Gras

We are very pleased to announce that we are now official dealers of Lampe Gras Lighting. Established in 1921, Lampe Gras was founded after Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments.

Lampe Gras

The GRAS lamp, as it was subsequently called, was astounding in its simple, robust and yet very ergonomic design. There are neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form.

For the first time in history, a lamp was equally popular in professional as well as in residential applications. Today, the GRAS lamp has become a sought after collector’s item all over the world and Bernard-Albin Gras’s talent and visionary designs has proven to be timeless.

Lampe Gras

Their Collections incorporate the original design and introduce a modern touch with coloured shades and most recently new copper and raw copper shade options.

Lampe Gras

Lampe Gras offer a wide range of interior and exterior lights perfect for both lighting projects and domestic interiors. We already have some of the most popular Collections by Lampe Gras available online. For any requests please don’t hesitate to contact us.
