Staff Picks: Emma’s Favourites

Emma Staff Picks.jpg

Working at David Village Lighting means being surrounded by an incredible mix of design classics and imaginative new releases, so it’s only natural that our team develop favourites of their own. This month’s Staff Picks come from Emma, our Operations Administrator, whose eye is drawn to lights with personality, character, and a touch of storytelling.

Here are Emma’s Top Five…

Louis Poulsen PH5 Pendant

“I tend to like lights with a little personality to them, and the PH5 has personality in spades. From the vast varieties of available colours to suit any space to the interesting shapes of the design itself, I would love to design a room around this pendant.” – Emma

First designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958, the PH5 remains a timeless pendant that balances form, function, and bold colour. Its layered shades ensure glare-free illumination, while its playful palettes make it as much an artwork as a light source.

Moooi Perch Branch Suspension

“I have loved this light since the first day I walked into our showroom for my interview. I think that Moooi has an incredibly unique collection of products, many of which strike my fancy but none more than this birds on a wire design.” – Emma

Moooi’s Perch Branch Suspension captures a poetic moment in nature, with folded paper-like birds balanced delicately on a golden branch. Each bird gently glows, creating a scene that feels both whimsical and serene, perfect for adding character to a space.

Tom Raffield Hanter Table Lamp

“Curving wood with the negative space filled beautifully by the hanging lightbulb – it is the simple elegance of this light that I really admire. That it’s made in Cornwall using ancient techniques doesn’t hurt its chances either.” – Emma

The Hanter Table Lamp combines sustainably sourced steam-bent ash or oak with an exposed filament bulb, celebrating craftsmanship and simplicity. Handmade in Cornwall, it showcases the natural beauty of wood while offering warm, sculptural light.

Tala Muse Portable Lamp

“This light is based on the lanterns of the past and as someone with a love for the 1890s aesthetic, I simply couldn’t help myself but fall in love.” – Emma

The Muse takes inspiration from Victorian lanterns, reimagined with a contemporary form and modern LED technology. With its dimmable, rechargeable design and robust IP44 rating, it’s perfect for moving from indoors to outdoors while evoking the romance of bygone eras.

Nordlux Bruna Bear Wall Light

“I have said that I like personality in my lights which is never truer than for this bear. It is so sweet with the light incorporated into the bear so seamlessly and also reminds me of the bear I had as a small child.” – Emma

Designed with children in mind, the Bruna Bear Wall Light combines a playful form with gentle illumination. Its soft, rounded silhouette makes it a comforting night-time companion and a charming decorative feature in family spaces.

Emma’s selections reflect her love of lighting with character, whether that’s through history, storytelling, or playful design. From design icons to imaginative creations, her favourites show how lighting can shape not just a room, but the atmosphere and memories within it.
