About the Designer: Phillipe Starck

The Bon Jour Unplugged is the work of Philippe Starck, an influential and prolific Industrial architect and designer. Known for his boundary-pushing approach to industrial design, Starck’s work ranges from everyday household objects and furniture to motorbikes and yachts.

As a child, Starck was inspired by his aircraft engineer father, who demonstrated the importance of organisation and designing objects that enhance the user's life. After studying at Ecole Nissim de Camondo in Paris, Phillipe Starck went on to gain international recognition from his interior design work for interiors such as La Main Bleue in Paris and Royalton and Paramount hotels in New York.

With Bon Jour Unplugged, Starck returned to his core design philosophy: simplicity, elegance, and functionality. The lamp reflects his signature style, which highlights sleek lines and thoughtful proportions, wrapped into a form that feels both timeless and contemporary.

“Whether it’s a toothbrush, an airplane or a chair, it’s always the same philosophy: to think about what the user will gain.” Philippe Starck

A Brief History of Bon Jour Unplugged

Ten years ago, Phillip Starck introduced the Bon Jour Unplugged Table Lamp, with immediate success. As a smaller, wireless sibling to the original Bon Jour lamp, it brought the same refined silhouette and sophisticated presence to a portable format. Designed to be both practical and elegant, the Unplugged version allowed users to move their light source wherever they needed it. The Bon Jour Unplugged has since become a modern classic, effortlessly bridging the worlds of luxury design and everyday functionality.

A Closer Look at Bon Jour Unplugged

The Bon Jour Unplugged is defined by its minimalist yet expressive design. It features a sleek base, available in Chrome, Polished Copper, Matt Chrome, or Matt White, and interchangeable crowns, offered in Rattan, Fabric, Smoke, or Transparent. This customisability allows the users to choose a lamp that perfectly suits their style and interior.

Built with portability in mind, the Bon Jour Unplugged is powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 6 hours on a full charge. An optical switch sensor on the base provides a four-step dimming function, allowing users to create the right ambiance for any environment. The LED emits a soft, warm glow that’s both functional and atmospheric, perfect for evening reading or dinner table lighting.

A Decade of Design Excellence

10 years of the Bon Jour Unplugged marks a decade of innovative and elegant design. The modern classic has become a symbol of enduring design, a source of inspiration to many, and a statement of design evolution over the last decade. The Bon Jour Unplugged continues to prove that good design never goes out of style.
