SkLO

Founded in 2009 by Pavel Hanousek, Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak, SkLO are a Northern California-based lighting manufacturer who are dedicated to working within and preserving the Czech glassblowing techniques. The brand name actually translates to 'glass' in Czech, and their work sits at the intersection of modern California design and centuries-old tradition. They take on a very specific point of view in regards to their craft, and each design is handcrafted, celebrating the imperfection and irregularity in the processes they use.

SkLO aim to reveal the previously unseen beauty of materials, whilst striving for restraint and beauty in all of their designs. Their overall aim is to create products of the highest quality that are also beautiful to live with. All of the SkLO glass is produced exclusively in the Czech Republic; Czech glass is known for its inimitable clarity, the vibrancy of its colours, the Czech ability to hand-blow large and complex shapes, and their renowned skill at cutting and carving glass. SkLO consider it a privilege to work with this craft tradition, and by working with it, they preserve it and celebrate it in every finished product.
