Fontana Arte Fontana 1853

Designed in 1954 by Max Ingrand, the Fontana 1853 is the archetypal abat-jour, a quietly iconic table lamp formed entirely in satin-finished blown glass. Both the diffuser and base are glass, so the whole object becomes a luminous volume, giving soft, even, glare-free illumination. The white finish reads calm and architectural by day, then, once lit, the surface mellows to a gentle, enveloping glow that works across living spaces, bedrooms and hospitality settings.

Available in three sizes, small, medium and large, each model features separate switching so the base and shade can be lit independently. This dual-control setup lets you choose a subtle night light, a fuller ambient level or both together for a richer presence in the room. Replaceable lamps keep the piece serviceable on projects and allow you to match colour temperature and output to the scheme.
