Muuto

Muuto is a Danish design brand whose name was inspired by the Finnish word muutos, which means new perspectives. Founded in 2006 by Kristian Byrge and Peter Bonnen, Muuto strives to expand the Scandinavian design tradition with new perspectives by handpicking the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and giving them the freedom to express their individual perspectives through everyday objects. They specialise in designing objects with a strong sense of character, with functionality and honest expression at the heart of everything they do. Muuto's inspiration is drawn from 1950s and 1960s Scandi design; they utilise forward-thinking materials, techniques, and bold creative thinking. Their ethos stems from an understanding that a design should spark curiosity and interest, without imposing itself on its surroundings.

The brand understands that people tend to gravitate towards something that feels familiar yet new. For this reason, they aim to create designs that are inviting and intuitively attractive. Before they introduce a new Muuto design, they want to be sure that it adds a new perspective, building on a strong heritage but in a modern context, somehow improving or challenging what has been made before. The Muuto collection, consisting of contemporary scandi-style, designer furniture, accessories and designer lighting, already includes iconic designs such as the Unfold Pendant and E27 Pendant.
