Vitoriano Vigano (1919-1996) was born in Milan, Italy and was an influential Italian architect. As the son of an Italian painter, Viganò grew up surrounded by culture and artistic flair. He graduated from Polytechnic School of Milan in 1944, after studying Architecture. His education assisted in him developing a multidisciplinary talent and led to a career that spanned multiple fields; from interior design to architectural projects.

After his time at the Polytechnic School of Milan, Vittoriano Viganò accomplished a Masters degree in engineering before assisting Gio Ponti on varying interior design projects. He later took on the role as Art Director of Arteluce, the company founded by Gino Sarfatti, for some years and for Arteluce he designed numerous lighting solutions.

Viganò saw architecture and design as tools for human development, he discounted the notion of interior architecture and design as banal decorative practices. For him, these intimate disciplines shared the approach and aims of architecture and urban planning. He is one of the most famous designers in the post-war "brutalism" movement.
