Bavarian-born, Sebastian Summa began his career as a Blacksmith before deciding to change his path and focus on design. Summa went on to study Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, at present he works in his studio in Berlin where he combines his skills and gets lost in his work - it is noted that his workshop is outside time, his work is his clock. Summa's design work is heavily influenced by his previous role as a blacksmith and the Polish designer is an expert in materials. Alongside the contrast of rough metal textures and elegant light sources, his work presents influence from astronomy and science fiction.

Summa works closely with tubular forms mixed with metallic accents which allow light to flow through and transform. Taking inspiration from iconic Bauhaus heritage, it is evident in Summa’s work that his two passions collaborate flawlessly, allowing him to create beautiful and intricate light fixtures. Sebastian Summa is best known for his collaborations with DCW editions.

"I like when you can read the process of making and of translucence inside a product"- Sebastian Summa
