Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer, specialising in lighting, furniture, and homeware. In 2011, she graduated from the Design Academy of Eindhoven before founding Studio Sabine Marcelis in Rotterdam. Marcelis draws inspiration from nature and often works with materials such as glass, resin, and stone. She believes in highlighting material properties through the uncluttered and pure forms showcased in her work.
Marcelis pushes production and manufacturing boundaries to achieve new visual effects, considering her designs to be true sensorial experiences. Her designs have been displayed in museums around the world, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York City, and The Victoria National Gallery, Melbourne. She has won prestigious awards for her designs, including ‘Designer Of The Year’ Dezeen Awards 2024, and ‘International Breakthrough Artist Of The Year’ GQ MOTY Awards, 2019. Today, she runs her business from the harbour of Rotterdam, where she works with notable international brands.
“For my designs, I find it very important that they are very honest, and also stripped down to the essentials.” - Sabine Marcelis
