Normal Studio was founded in 2006 by design duo Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï. Jean-François Dingjian is a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne. After graduating, he co-founded Azimits - a design and graphic design magazine. Eloi Chafaï first found design through graffiti. In 1991, he joined ENSCI-Les Ateliers, graduating in 2006. He became a student of Jean-François Dingjian, becoming his assistant in 2001. Together, through Normal Studio, they reimagine everyday shapes through simple and precise design that celebrates quality of use.
Normal Studio has collaborated with notable international brands including Tolix, Atelier Sedap, Oberflex, and Sammode. For Sammode, they created the Belleville Light – a versatile lighting collection characterised by its geometric, contemporary aesthetic. The studio has been awarded numerous accolades including the Design/Enterprise Award at Designer's Day (2010), the Designer of the Year award at the Now! of Home&Object (2010), and the Elle Déco Design Award.
“We love the story of objects whose identity primarily reflects human history. We also love extraordinary experiences, the stories of companies, and installation processes as a facilitator for shaping ideas.” - Normal Studio
