Joel Degermark is a product designer who focuses on creating playful and unique products. Degermark studied at the Royal College of Art in London and at the Beckmans School of Design in Stockholm before going on to open his studio. In 2006, Joel Degermark and architect Catharina Frankander founded Electric Dreams, based in Stockholm. Electric Dreams has since become a multi-award-winning studio, specialising in immersive retail experiences.
Joel Degermark is fascinated by playful exaggerations and focuses on things that are “excessively colourful, crazy, beautiful, dark and simply too much overall.” He designed the Cluster Lamp for Mooi, a dynamic pendant that holds five bulbs, giving the user endless possibilities of bulb combinations to create a unique and eye-catching display. Designs from Joel Degermark are often evolutions of typical household objects, reimagined in an unusual way to become something new and playful.
Since opening in 2006, Electric Dreams has won a handful of notable accolades including honourable mentions from Lighting Design Awards 2024, for their work on Nelly Flagship Store in Stockholm.
