Chia-Ying Lee is a designer from Taiwan. She graduated from the Interaction Design Institute in Ivrea in 2006 before working for PEGA Design & Engineering for three years. In 2001, Lee founded her studio, studio if, where she specialises in industrial design, physical interaction design, and new media installation.
Chia-Ying Lee’s work is a fusion of design, art and technology embodied in physical forms, from products to installations. She has collaborated with notable worldwide brands including lighting company Lodes, with whom she created the popular Random Collection composed of elegant spheres of blown glass. Lee has been awarded several awards over the course of her career, including "IF China Product Design Award", "Taiwan Excellence Award" and "SDA Best Design of The Year".
“The production industry is still quite big in this island. So, I think my design process is influenced by all those workshops or factors which you can easily find here. So just by talking to those people about their crafts or by looking at how they make things can give me a lot of inspirations.” – Chia-Ying Lee
