Carlo Nason was born in 1935 into a family of glassmakers. From an early age, Nason was taught the intricacies of glassblowing from the properties of the materials to the artisanal techniques used in glass molding and decoration. Carlo Nason deviated from the traditional Venetian taste for colours and decoration, instead opting for clean forms and shapes in his designs. He became passionate about working with white opaque glass, a popular feature in his designs throughout his career.
Carlo Nason’s designs have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, earning him international recognition and acclaim. In 2015, on his 80th birthday, Nason was invited to exhibit a selection of his major designs at the Triennale of Milan. Today, Carlo Nason continues to live and work in Murano, Italy.
“When I was young and went to school, the glass from Murano did not interest me much. I always had the idea of the form, or forms. I bought Japanese vases made of metal, because I liked the very simple and smooth forms. I maybe started from there.” - Carlo Nason
