Dutch designer Bertjan Pot graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. It was there that he discovered his passion for textiles, which can be seen within his work today. In 2003, he opened Studio Bertjan Pot in Rotterdam and worked alongside his friend Daniel White to create groundbreaking designs. Pot's projects and products are based on research and experimentation. The famous Mask collection was formed when Pot was weaving a rug out of string. When the rug started to bend and stretch, Pot lifted it to his face, realising that the string formed the shape of a mask.

With Pot's willingness to let materials take the lead on his designs, he created the Random collection for Italian design brand Moooi. The Heracleum Collection was created whilst experimenting with different LED techniques. Pot believes that most experiments start quite impulsively by a certain curiosity for how things would function or how something would look.

“When it comes to experimentation, I tell people in my studio to always try the simplest thing first. People tend to think too long about the experiment they’re planning and make it overly complex.” – Bertjan Pot
