Alberto Meda & Paolo Rizzatto

Alberto Meda
Alberto Meda graduated from Milan Polytechnic in 1969 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. From 1972 to 1979 he was technical director for Kartell, where he experimented with plastic based materials and production processes. After which he worked as a freelance designer, during this time he worked as a consultant for Gaggia and Alfa Romeo.

All of this experience eventually led him to begin working with Luceplan founder Paolo Rizzatto. This sprung Meda into a world of top designers and their collaboration even extended to a collaboration with Kartell. From 1983 to 1987, Meda taught industrial technology at the Domus Academy in Milan. He became a docent at the Milan Polytechnic in 1995 and since 2003 he has lectured at multiple Universities, including Chicago, Stockholm, Miami, São Paulo, Istanbul and Toronto.

Paolo Rizzatto
Paolo Rizzatto graduated in Architecture from Milan Polytechnic in 1965 and continued to work freelance in his Milanese studio. He experimented in the fields of architecture, interior design, and product design. in 1978, he founded Luceplan alongside Ricardo Sarfatti and Sandra Severi. Paolo Rizzatto described his early work as ‘I work as an architect, my first approach to light was based on its function within architecture’. This led Paolo Rizzatto to design lighting that acts as many lighting solutions in different environments.

Rizzatto's love for bold colours and simplistic design follows through to other collections such as the Luceplan Costanzina collection. This collection uses a minimalist design along with many bold and intriguing coloured finishes. Colours such as bright primary red, smart yellow or petroleum blue.
