Lampe Gras from David Village Lighting
Founded in 1921 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments. The original GRAS lamp, as it was named after its creator, was surprisingly simple, robust and very ergonomic design. The functional aesthetic and design of details such as the arms, stems, brackets and bases were truly original and far ahead of its time. Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps and became one of Bernard-Albin GRAS’s most enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world.
We are delighted to be able to add this range to our collection and during the next few weeks we will be uploading more products to our website. Please contact us in the meantime for prices on any of the Lampe gras range.

Lampe Gras - Le mobilier de Gras
Founder of Lampe Gras, Bernard-Albin Gras never designed furniture; his passion was for lamps for use in offices and industrial environments.
So what is Le mobilier de Gras? Translated into English it means the Gras range of furniture.
It’s the start of something new for Lampe Gras yet is in keeping with their traditional designs.
The collection has been designed to serve the person who is using it, focusing on it being functional, resistant and serviceable.
Similar to Lampe Gras traditional designs the furniture range can be deflective from its original function. For example the Plug and Dream can become a welcome to an entrance and the Plug and Work can become a freestanding counter prefect for drinks.
Designed to stand the test of time and wear but not to show its age, the Le mobilier de Gras range is created using simple but solid materials; steel, wood and rubber.

Lampe Gras and a Collection to rave about – MANTIS
Designer Bernard Schottlander was born in 1924 in Mainz, Germany and in 1939 he moved to England. After learning to weld whilst serving with the British Army in India, Schottlander began a successful career in the design industry. In the late 1950’s he established a workshop in north London and soon after in 1951 Schottlander created the ‘MANTIS’ series of lamps.
Movement is intrinsic to the collection with a clever system of counterweights combined with strong and flexible metals bars. The shade is unique. Like an acrobat suspended mid-air, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are part of the metalworker’s inventory of skills. Schottlander has brought his sculptors eye to create a helical movement in which the symmetrical and asymmetrical are in opposition.
The Mantis collection is formed of table, floor, wall and ceiling Lamps.

In March’s issue of Elle Decoration Editor Michelle Ogundehin discusses the idea of grey being the new neutral. Over the last few years neutrals have turned their connotations from boring dull shades to now express high end style. In the mist of that, grey is also now going against the ideas of being an old age, cold colour and is now one which is seen to easily fit into your interior giving you a step up from whites and neutrals.
