Orsjo Belysning

Orsjo Belysning is a Swedish lighting company founded in 1948 by Simon Jonsson, Sture Jonsson and Edvin Thoren. They excel in the field of Scandinavian design and produce lamps with a focus on functionality, innovation and personality. Orsjo began as a production hub for small metal components such as fabric stretcher clips for the textiles industry and blowpipe tips for the glass industry. They began developing lamps for IKEA in 1952, and after the company was bought by Jan Sundberg in the 1960's, they began their evolution as an emerging name in the world of design.

Each of the Orsjo Belysning lights is produced by hand. This is to ensure a sense of human touch and warmth is still present, a link between the user and the creator that is often lost in industrial production. The brand collaborates with a series of local craftsmen for their entire product range. The brand also encourages a design process based on materiality, which allows the raw materials they use to come into their own. Orsjo's work has been created by some of Scandinavia's best designers, who adopt an applied arts approach to their work, resulting in a collection of expressive and unique lighting pieces.

Orsjo have even been one of the few companies to be awarded an Eco-Swan certification, for their commitment to reducing environmental damage throughout their creation process. By using sustainable materials, producing fittings locally, and designing for easy recycling, they are able to limit the impact they make on the environment.
