This May, Clerkenwell Design Week once again lit up the House of Detention with the return of [d]arc thoughts, a talks programme curated by [d]arc media and proudly sponsored by David Village Lighting. Now in its third year, [d]arc thoughts brought together some of the industry’s most inspiring voices to explore how lighting continues to shape, soften, and reimagine the built environment.
Among the standout events across the three-day programme was the Residential Lighting panel, where our Business Development Manager, Jack Spivey, joined Jo Calver (Isla James Interiors) and Toria Thorpe (Lighting by Plum) for an in-depth discussion on the evolving role of lighting in high-end domestic spaces.
With residential and commercial design becoming increasingly fluid, the panel reflected on how lighting has adapted to new ways of living. Jack highlighted the rising demand for hybrid lighting schemes that echo both comfort and performance, as homeowners seek smart, seamless control without compromising on atmosphere. From integrated app-based systems to wellness-driven concepts inspired by natural light, the conversation spanned everything from tunable white LEDs to the growing awareness of sustainability and long-term value.
A key thread throughout the session was the emotional and functional power of light. As Jo put it, “Lighting design is the greatest tool you can use to animate your interiors.” The panel agreed that well-considered schemes elevate not just how a home looks, but how it feels, from calming, spa-like sanctuaries to energising workspaces adapted to post-pandemic routines.
We’re proud to support platforms like [d]arc thoughts that champion thoughtful design and push the conversation forward. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Clerkenwell this year.
