Our Bestsellers of 2023

5 January 2024

As 2023 draws to a close, our team at David Village Lighting love to look back on our year and reflect on some favourite designs, popular pieces, and longstanding classics. December is a perfect year to evaluate what our customers love most, including some of the most popular products - as chosen by you.

Many favourites from 2022 continued their reign throughout 2023, but there were a few new contenders in this year’s bestsellers. From bespoke British classics to Italian innovation with a retro appeal, let’s look at this year’s top products.

1) Kartell Masters Chair

Once again, the Kartell Masters Chair was the number-one bestseller at David Village Lighting, and we are not surprised one bit. This seating solution is available in a range of colours and can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings, for dining and relaxing. Designed by Philippe Starck, the Masters is a powerful tribute to three unmistakable symbolic chairs - "Series 7" by Arne Jacobsen, the "Tulip Armchair" by Eero Saarinen and the "Eiffel Chair" by Charles Eames. Starck blends these ideas to create a hybrid contemporary seat.

The colours range from more minimal neutral finishes to bolder yellows, orange and even metallic chrome or gold. Either stick to your chosen colour or combine variations that compliment each other for a unique seating arrangement in your space.

2) Flos Globall Mini Ceiling/Wall Light

Another definitive design and a customer favourite, the Flos GloBall Mini Ceiling/Wall Light is a classic way to illuminate your bathroom. Designed by Jasper Morrison, this lighting solution offers two mounting options; either a wall mount or a mirror mount - the wall/ceiling mounting option has an IP44 rating and the mirror mounting option has an IP40 rating. The Flos GloBall is incredibly versatile and can adapt to almost any interior, providing a diffused glow that is perfect for early mornings getting ready or late nights unwinding after a long day. They can be displayed individually or in multiples and can be combined with other lights in the GloBall collection.

3) Artemide Teti

The Artemide Teti Wall Light was originally designed in 1970 by Vico Magistretti and remains as prominent as when it was first released - for the second year in a row it is a David Village Lighting bestseller! Available in a range of finishes to suit your needs, we believe the orange gives your room a fun retro appeal and enhances your interior, while the white and transparent grant a more subtle design choice. The Artemide Teti is suitable for use both as a ceiling or a wall light and can be installed alone or in small clusters to create unique configurations, a truly personable light. Granting a softly diffused illumination, Teti can be used in a variety of rooms as an ambient lighting solution.

4) Tom Dixon Mini Melt

The Tom Dixon Mini Melt is an iconic lighting solution, featuring the brand's famous injection blow moulded shade, available in four finishes; Copper, Gold, Smoke or Chrome. When on, the pendants take on the appearance of molten glass, creating an impressive optical display, and when turned off it is transformed into a mirror, creating a reflective surface very dissimilar to its previous form. A smaller version of the Melt Pendant, the Mini Melt can be displayed individually or hung in clusters at varying heights to craft a dramatic statement piece. The LED technology creates a soft diffused illumination that creates a peaceful ambience in your home.

5) Artemide Dioscuri Ceiling/Wall Light

The Dioscuri Ceiling/Wall Light was designed by Michelle de Lucchi, illuminating any interior with simple elegance and harmonious light. The Dioscuri features a hand-blown opal glass shade, resulting in a smooth, satin finish and a softly diffused illumination. This classic Artemide design is loved by our customers with a variation of personal styles and provides the ability to create unique clusters using different sizes, so although one alone is subtle, it is possible to create a statement. Artemide Dioscuris are often used in bathrooms to cast light upon the sink area, the Dioscuri 25, 35 and 42 versions boast an IP rating of 64 whereas the Dioscuri 14 has an IP rating of 44.

6) Muuto Unfold Pendant

The Muuto Unfold is an industrial-style pendant, made from silicone rubber, making it durable and easy to clean. For these reasons, it is a customer favourite in the commercial sector, often used in restaurants, cafes and shops. Designed by Form Us With Love, the Muuto Unfold features a warm and trendy aesthetic, whilst the vast array of finishes allows it to adapt to almost any interior, either individually or in larger groups. This pendant is equally affordable and useful in any home or professional environment. The Unfold allows you to decorate your space in any way and colour combination you wish.

7) &Tradition Flowerpot VP9 Portable Lamp

The &Tradition Flowerpot collection is an iconic range of lamps, so we were not at all surprised that the VP9 Portable Lamp ended up in our bestsellers list. The most compact and mobile of the collection, the VP9 features the same bold finishes and unique shape of any other Flowerpot lighting solution, but without the inconvenience of cables. The portable light has a USB charger cable included in the purchase and will operate for 11 hours on the highest light setting after being fully charged. Designed in 1968 by Verner Panton, this stylish lamp harks back to the flower power movement from the 1960s. The lampshade is made from two hemispheres which work together to conceal and reflect the light source, providing a warm, soft glow for the space.

8) HAY PC Portable Lamp

The PC Portable Table Lamp by HAY was designed by Pierre Charpin and was especially popular during the run-up to Christmas thanks to its giftability. The PC Portable hosts no permanent wires so can easily be manoeuvred around your space, allowing you to take the illumination wherever you need it most. A single charge can last up to 8 hours on the brightest setting. The HAY PC Portable lamp is a minimal and stylish design which is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, it has a robust plastic exterior which is scratch and splashproof. This lamp is available in a collection of finishes, with the black, olive and dusty red colours having an opaque shade, and providing mainly downlight whilst the cream white, ocean green, sky blue, soft yellow and cool grey shades have a translucent quality and grant an all round ambience.

9) Louis Poulsen PH5 Pendant

The Louis Poulsen PH5 is a classic design, created in 1958 by Poul Henningsen. Over the years it has become an iconic lighting solution for kitchen islands and dining tables, but can also be displayed in other areas of your home. The PH5 gets its name from the five overlapping inner shades, which ensure that the entire room is illuminated. The light fixture is crafted to prevent glare, with the illumination expertly reflected through the inner shades, radiating a beautiful and warm glow that shines both upwards and downwards. The original design is now available in 17 finish options (15 coloured and 2 metallic ones) allowing you to choose a PH5 that best fits the style of your home.

10) Foscarini Aplomb Pendant

The Foscarini Aplomb Pendant features a sleek and contemporary style that is incredibly popular with our customers in both residential and commercial settings. Crafted from hand-poured concrete, this pendant has a unique aesthetic that provides a functional spotlight on the surface below. The Aplomb Pendant is often displayed above kitchen islands, countertops or dining tables thanks to the functional glow. They can be hung individually for smaller surfaces or purchase several to line bigger areas. With numerous colours to choose from you can find the right finish for your space or mix and match to create variety.
