101 Copenhagen

101 Copenhagen is a Danish design brand that was founded in 2017 with a vision and understanding to honour exquisite quality and craftsmanship from the smallest fixture to the largest installations. It is formed of two main designers, Tommy Hyldahl and Kristian Sofus Hansen, who have merged their backgrounds in the fashion industry, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and inspiration from trips to Japan. Tommy Hyldahl has a natural attention to detail in materials, historical references, and original design concepts. And Kristian Sofus Hansen brings aesthetics and simplicity to the Danish design heritage and translates these details into the 101 Copenhagen collection. They describe their design technique as "Translating and transforming the simplistic inspiration from Japan in a Scandinavian context is all about honouring quality, heritage and materiality while never ceasing to compromise on form and function".

The design process used by the team at 101 Copenhagen is dynamic and characterised by freedom of expression. Allowing designers to create unique pieces without compromising on their individuality, meaning each application encompasses character and pride. The timeless yet modern designs by this brand are deeply-rooted in Scandinavian traditions, whilst also being influenced by Japanese minimalist aesthetics, and this pairing has meant there is a large emphasis being placed upon quality materials, techniques, and traditions. 101 Copenhagen expertly combine blown glass, exquisite ceramics and raw wood shaped entirely by human hands. The result is a range of organic and elegant luminaires that can easily adapt to a variety of modern interiors.
