Oluce Acrilica

Acrilica was the first project Joe Colombo worked on for Oluce and the only collaboration he's done with this brother, Gianni. Going forward, the brothers kept their fields of work, separate. The original 281 model, which was designed in 1962, was immediately nicknamed “Acrilica” due to its surprising conspicuousness and exceptional innovation of the significant curve made from acrylic.

Methacrylate was used for about a decade in the field of lighting, and its thickness and curve meant that thanks to its conduction properties, the light from a fluorescent lamp contained within the painted steel base moved through the transparent body, eventually incredibly lighting the edge. Due to this magical movement, Acrilica is more a work of kinetic art than a lamp.
