Flos’s Most loved – The SkyGarden

The Flos SkyGarden was designed in 2007 by renowned designer Marcel Wanders.  The inspiration behind the design was from his former home which had a fabulous antique decorated plaster ceiling which he called his SkyGarden. It didn’t need any sun or water and he loved it so much that when he moved home, he stole it from the ceiling and moved it with him.

The Flos Skygarden is a beautiful hemispherical pendant with a plaster diffuser painted white inside with six outer finishes Rust, Glossy Black, Glossy White, Matte Gold, Silver or Copper.

The lamp makes a powerful impression with its sheer size and the intricate inner floral design which gives the piece its name.

Previous winner of both the Elle Decoration International Design Awards (EDIDA) and the Red Dot Award in 2008 the pendant makes an impact both placed alone or in a design with others.

Luceplan Celebrate Success

LucePlan celebrate another major success as the Ascent lamp designed by Daniel Rybakken in 2013 has won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI award in the category Design for Living, assigned by the Association for Industrial Design ADI. Already selected for publication in the ADI Design Index 2014 and winner of the important Red Dot Design Award 2014 in the Product Design category, the Ascent lamp has brought Luceplan new honour and confirming the excellence of the Milan-based lighting design company.

The fundamental novelty lies in the unusual gesture to turn on the lamp and to adjust its intensity or turn it off. The small shade slides along the stem with a fluid, continuous motion, dimming the light output by moving the head up and down. An intriguing gesture whose simplicity actually conceals a complex process of design and engineering.

There was also an Honorable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2016, for the evocative and technological lamps Synapse and Tango, both made possible by the ongoing collaboration between Luceplan and Francisco Gomez Paz.

Mounted on a triangular steel base the floor light Tango incorporates the sensual movements of the dance of the same name, giving the fixture a dynamic posture of variable geometry, which through a simple gesture makes it possible to gently adjust the direction of the beam.  Argentine designer Francisco Gomez Paz has created an innovative floor lamp for indirect lighting. The jointed structure of the lamp composed of three mobile aluminium shafts with elastomer joints nimbly lends itself to a fluid mechanical torsion movement setting its angle and making it possible to direct the light where it is needed with respect to the standard initial position.

The Synapse system is based on repetition of a three-lobe module composed of shells in polycarbonate and RGB LEDs, for the creation of luminous and coloured surfaces. The total flexibility of the system creates new expressive possibilities, allowing users to create multiple configurations for surprising decorative effects.

Another award winning design of 2016 is the Luceplan Mesh designed by Francisco Gomez Paz which won the Red Dot “Best of the Best” 2016. The Mesh is a suspension lamp offering multiple lighting scenarios. The dramatic and highly innovative light is formed of a lightweight almost transparent structure composed of a network of metal cables with the LED positioned at their intersections which conceals the complexity of the product, dematerializing it to leave space only for light. The intensity can be adjusted, and it is possible to choose which sectors to illuminate – an upper ring, the lower zone, a lateral sector. Thanks to its versatility and spectacular image, Mesh is perfect for both the home and contract markets.
