Moooi

New Moooi Meshmatics Chandelier

Moooi have recently released their latest Chandelier, Meshmatics. The Chandelier is designed by Rick Tegelaar, a product design graduate from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in The Netherlands.

Moooi

The Meshmatics Chandelier is made from wire netting which has been stretched to form a thin and flexible material which then creates the three layers.

The clever wire mesh structure reflects and diffuses the integrated LED light and contributes to keeping the light source cool by absorbing some of it heat.

The playful light cascades down the chandeliers frame creating a beautiful simmering reflection and casts an elaborate net of shadows onto the ceiling.

Louis Poulsen

New Louis Poulsen Panthella Mini Chrome Table

Louis Poulsen

Back in 1971 Verner Panton worked with Louis Poulsen to develop the iconic Panthella. The design was created to shape light and gently illuminate its surroundings to create an ideal ambience. The Panthella range has become one of Louis Poulsen’s best selling lights and in 2016 they developed the Panthella Mini to fit smaller spaces.

Now Louis Poulsen has released a Chrome finish of the compact Panthella Mini to bring Panton’s original vision of a metal Panthella to life. The chrome shade mirrors and playfully distorts its surroundings.

Louis Poulsen

The Panthella Mini features a built in LED and has an inline dimmer included on the cable. The light also features a timer that can be set to turn the lamp off after 4 or 8 hours.

The Panthella Mini’s smaller design makes it perfect on window sills, shelves, tables and other small surfaces.

“When Verner Panton originally developed the Panthella lamp with Louis Poulsen in 1971, he wanted the design to have a metal shade, which was technologically impossible at the time.”

“In 2016, we were able to make his vision a reality when we first launched the Panthella MINI with metal shades painted in bold colours from Panton’s own palette. Now, working closely with the Panton family, we have pushed Panton’s vision even further with an actual metallised finish. So the design retains its iconic form, but also gains an entirely new expression and becomes engaged in conversation with everything and everyone around it.”

Rasmus Markholt, Design Manager at Louis Poulsen

Trend report: Spring/Summer 2018

 Monochrome & Terracotta

Monochrome & Terracotta
For spring/summer 2018 the trend of adding monochrome and terracotta together is the perfect combination of modern style and warmth. Monochrome has always been a popular trend, especially for the minimalistic of us.
The earth tones from the terracotta prevent your space from feeling cold and impersonal and inject a welcoming and cosy feel.See for yourself how this trend can work for you.

Organic

Organic
It’s all about the natural elements this year; wood, marble, concrete and linen. Organic textures and materials have seen a huge come back being used in lighting, furniture and accessories. It stems from the concept of bringing the outdoors in.

Burgundy

Burgundy
Tones of red wine, rust and raspberry are these seasons must-have shades. Add a touch opulence and glamour to your space with burgundy furnishings, fittings and accessories. Rich colour such as oxblood works beautifully with marble, glass or precious metals.

Woven

Woven
Relating back to the organic theme, woven natural materials are back this season. Woven light shades, chairs and textured fabrics help to create a light, bright and airy space. See below for some inspiration on how to incorporate the woven trend into your space.

Seventies

The seventies
This spring/summer we are welcoming back shaggy rugs, flower patterns and exuberant colours. When done right the seventies style can add a classic retro feel to a contemporary home. Only a few key pieces are needed to bring back the best part of the seventies style. Brass lighting features, lavish textures and charismatic furniture will create an elegant look in your modern interior.

Brokis

Lucie Koldova at IMM Cologne 2018's Das Haus

Brokis

For this years IMM Cologne the Das Haus project was guest designed by Lucie Koldova.

Brokis

The Czech designer wanted to tell a story of an ideal house not with words but with lights. Lucie’s installation was divided into rooms; one for relaxation, another for inspiration, another for dressing and a final one for the spirit.

Brokis

Her design featured no kitchen and she said during an IMM presentation in her Prague studio, “I have many other important things to show. In my ideal house, I would not be cooking.”

Brokis

Lucie began her design career by studying at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and later went on to join Arik Levy’s studio in Paris. On moving back to Prague Lucie designed Muffins with Czech lighting brand Brokis and received international attention.

Brokis

Owner and founder of Brokis, Jan Rabell spoke about Lucie during a meeting at the company’s headquarters saying “She brought her proposals and they were great. They had the image I wanted for Brokis. And she pushes. She pushes and pushes.”

The Czech designer showed many debuts at IMM Cologne not only for interior lighting but furnishings which completed the look.

Louis Poulsen

The latest releases from Louis Poulsen

PH5

Louis Poulsen

To celebrate the PH5 pendant’s sixtieth anniversary Louis Poulsen are releasing it in eight new finishes.

The PH5 was designed in 1958 by Poul Henningsen and six decades later still remains the best selling design in Louis Poulsen’s portfolio.

Poul Henningsen designed the PH5 as a follow-up to his celebrated three-shade system, which was launched in 1926 and put Louis Poulsen on the map as the leading manufacturer of innovative lighting. Henningsen’s original design had been inspired by his mother’s wish for more flattering, softer light.

The new finishes include; Classic White, Modern White, and six vibrant new colour combinations: Hues of Orange, Hues of Rose, Hues of Red, Hues of Green, Hues of Blue and Hues of Grey.

The different hues on each lamp’s five iconic shades create a dynamic gradient effect, enhancing the pendants’ visual impact.

“Every interior – whether classic or modern – can benefit from the exceptional lighting and aesthetic qualities of Poul Henningsen’s most popular design. We wanted to celebrate the six-decade legacy by expanding the PH 5 family to complement any space, and open it up for new, modern and personal expression. The lamps can be subtly incorporated with existing décor – or bring a bold pop of colour. We look forward to seeing how people interpret the new options to create their ideal ambience.”

Rasmus Markholt - Idea & Design Director at Louis Poulsen.

Cirque

Louis Poulsen

The original Cirque pendant was introduced in 2016 by designer Clara von Zweigbergk. The original pendant features three bold colour combinations in three sizes. Now the Swedish designer has explored a new territory of hues releasing the Cirque in a Scandinavian palette of soft grey tones.

Cirque provides beautiful, soft and atmospheric lighting. Its unique form and matt white interior ensures direct, downwards light.

This style of light, paired with the sense that the pendant could be spinning mid-air, alludes to von Zweigbergk’s original theme park inspiration.

While its matt painted finish creates a soft look and feel, the pendant is in fact made of aluminium. Sturdy and easy to maintain, the design is ideal for kitchens (particularly above tables, bars or islands), children’s bedrooms, entryways, and living and dining areas. The pendant can be hung individually or suspended in rows or clusters.

“In the grey version, the pendant becomes more about the shape.”

Clara von Zweigbergk

“While the grey tones give Cirque a subtler expression, the visual impact of the sculptural form is enhanced, highlighting each contour. The simple Scandinavian aesthetic also gives it a different kind of presence: both more introspective and very inviting.”

Rasmus Markholt, Idea & Design Director at Louis Poulsen

Tolbod 120

Louis Poulsen

Louis Poulsen original Toldbod 120 lamp was based on the philosophy that the simpler the design, the greater its flexibility.

The new Toldbod 120 design colour variants draw from a subtle, elegant palette of Black, White, Dark Rose, Light Grey and Blue-Grey all with a white interior.

The new hues give the familiar design a fresh, modern look and feel. The classic pendant looks great both on its own and in multiples: both in a single hue or a mixed palette; in a row or in scattered, multi-height arrangements.

The pendant’s soft yet precise form makes it a natural fit for a variety of architectural styles and environments, from kitchens, dining and living rooms to hallways, offices and bedrooms.

“We developed the Toldbod with the vision of a very classic shape whose simple form would allow us to experiment almost infinitely with size and finish,” “The new colour range offers new opportunities to get creative – and reimagine the impact that lighting can have on a room. We wanted to offer our customers every opportunity to create a very individual layout, grouping various colour arrangements to really play up the desired atmosphere. A straight row of Toldbods is serious and structured. A multi-level, scattered arrangement becomes artistic and even more personal. The idea behind the design is to really make room for individual vision and self-expression in a given space.”

Rasmus Markholt, Idea & Design Director at Louis Poulsen.

Foscarini

New Foscarini Dolmen

A new year brings new designs and the first of many from Foscarini is the Dolmen collection.

Foscarini

The design is one of Foscarini most iconic, originally designed by Ferruccio Laviani in the mid-Nineties. The collection has been reworked to adapt to the new opportunities offered by LED technology.

The collection includes a suspension and floor version both using a dimmable LED source which provides a warm uniform light and allows a slimmer aesthetic.

The finishes transform its personality and suggest different feelings and settings; matt orange with an industrial tone or a matt brushed aluminium for hightech inspiration, or a warm bronze colour.

Foscarini

The Floor lamp is designed to be rested against a wall and give out a diffused and reflected light. The suspension hangs gracefully giving both a direct and indirect light.

Both the floor and suspension versions are made from a laser-cut sheet of aluminium which is bent using a pressure bending machine and hand finished. The aluminium is anodised and subsequently liquid coated with transparent varnish or coloured paint. The collection is available aluminium, orange or bronze.

Decode

Product Focus – Decode Heavy

London-based design and manufacturing company, Decode was founded in 2007. Their products challenge conventions in design and give a fresh perspective on traditional materials.Decode

The Heavy collection includes a desk, a wall and four sizes of pendant. The family gives a new perspective on the use of concrete, usually an industrial material.

Each concrete shade is left in the mould to dry for a number of days allowing random air pockets and veins to develop on the interior of the shade. These markings vary on each shade creating a unique marble pattern in contrast to the shades smooth exterior.

Orsjo

Product Focus – Örsjö Belysning Baklava

The Baklava collection was first unveiled in 2011 as part of Claesson Koivisto Rune’s commission to design the highly renowned Nobis Hotel on Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.

Orsjo

The families name is a nod to the Turkish pastry baked in different layers which is reflected in the shades design.

The aim was to create a lamp with a soft glare and a smooth character. The shade is crafted from multiple textile layers which are draped and tied together at the top and bottom. There is a red plexiglass disc placed under the light source which emits a soft, reddish-pink glow at the bottom when lit. When off the fabric is white.

The wide range of sizes and models enables a selection of inspiring group arrangements.

“Designing a lamp isn’t so difficult, but coming up with something new which stands out from the crowd is another matter entirely.”

“We wanted to create a more unconventional lamp for Hotel Nobis, so we started experimenting, before eventually deciding on the shade wrapped in fabric and the tied cords. The red filter makes the light even softer.”

Wastberg

New from Wastberg – w171 Alma

The w171 Alma collection designed by Tham & Videgård includes a suspension, wall and ceiling.

Alma suspension can be hung freely above a table or in a large room with multiple others creating a floating point of light.

The light image of the concentric circles can be varied depending on the choice of light source. The soft shapes create a pleasant atmosphere and in daylight the satin matte finish create a beautiful statement.

With its slim silhouette, w171 alma can also be mounted directly onto the ceiling or wall.

The w171 Alma lamp was originally developed for a brand new co-working facility project in Stockholm, called Alma. Tham & Videgård was entrusted with refurbishing the five floors, and with developing the light sources of the building together with Wästberg.

Louis Poulsen

Limited Edition PH 3½-3 Amber coloured Glass Pendant

Louis Poulsen has just released a limited edition of Poul Henningsen’s PH 3½-3 pendant design.

The pendant features amber coloured glass and a brass suspension and will be available for just two months, from November through to December, 2017.

Louis Poulsen

Louis Poulsen and Poul Henningsen initially introduced coloured glass lamps in the late 1920s to attract new customers which proved successful.

The limited edition finish accentuates the PH 3½-3’s warmth and the size makes it ideal for use over a dinning table or in an arrangement of multiple pendants.

Louis Poulsen

“As the glass of each pendant is crafted individually, each lamp varies ever so slightly from the others, resulting in unique pieces that are as much works of art as functional additions to home or work spaces.”

“We are thrilled to offer the classic PH 3½-3 in this beautiful new variant, which reflects today’s growing retro trends and an increasing desire to incorporate warm metallic tones like gold and brass into contemporary interiors.”

Rasmus Markholt, Idea & Design Director at Louis Poulsen

The PH 3½-3 Amber Coloured Pendant features Poul Henningsen’s legendary three-shade system, invented in 1926 and known for its ability to direct the majority of the light downwards while eliminating glare. The amber tone and glossy surface on the shades’ exterior, combined with the sandblasted matt underside results in a soft diffused light distribution. The brushed brass suspension has been left untreated, allowing it to become darker with individualised patina over time, unless polished.
