Black, Blue and Smoke

As a family business here at David Village Lighting we are always excited about new lighting families, especially when the latest colour trends are incorporated.

Tom Dixon are right up to the minute with their latest collections.

Expanding on some of their best selling ranges, they have introduced three new colour ways; black, blue and smoke.

 Tom Dixon

Inspired by the 60s theme that brought the Mirror Ball into existence, the crisp, vivid blue finish was taken from the pop art movement and their unapologetic use of colour.

Collections Bell and Copper are now available in this dynamic and refreshing new finish. Chosen because of their futuristic design the bold blue compliments the iconic silhouettes perfectly.

Tom Dixon

Glossy black is often a designer’s favourite finish; it’s sleek, modern and can fits easily into a variation of interior styles.

Popularly used in Japanese furniture design and Bauhaus interiors, the glossy black Bell table is an easy way of adding a stylish feature into your home.

Tom Dixon

To compliment the existing collection of Melt pendant lights, a new smoke colour has been added to the gold, copper and chrome finishes.

The moody yet stylish smokey finish is an increasingly popular choice for contemporary homes. As smoke is not quite as harsh or dark as black, it’s a more versatile feature which adds an edgy style.

DCW éditions

New DCWeditions online

It’s almost been two years since we began working with DCWeditions and our initial thoughts about the quality and design of their products has been confirmed. We have been delighted with their range and professional attitude.

We have recently added some new DCW collections online which bring a modern touch to their nostalgic designs.

Here Comes the Sun

DCW éditions

Here Comes the Sun was first designed in 1970 by French architect, Bertrand Balas. The lamps name was inspired by a song by the icons of pop culture at the time, The Beatles. The design at first glance is like any other but when on it gives out a magical glow.

Here comes the sun is available in a range of sizes and looks beautiful hung alone or in a cluster to create a statement piece.

Click here to view the Here Comes the Sun collection!

In the Sun

DCW éditions

The In The Sun Collection was designed to pay homage to the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Designed by Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost the family radiates hues of gold and silver and cast soft shadows of light.

Whether wall-mounted, as a ceiling lamp or hanging, the result is consistently magical.

Click here to view the In the Sun collection!

In the Tube

DCW éditions

The In The Tube collection adds a softer more decorative tube light to DCW. Designed again by Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot‑Prévost the collections objective was to be timeless, durable and of high-performance. The family is available in several lengths, diameters and colours.

Click here to view the In the Tube collection!

Biny

DCW éditions

The Biny collection was designed in 1957 by Jacques Biny and still today remains resolutely modern. He was a thorough man who never stopped in his quest to improve how homes where lit.

Functionality was key and he incorporated blinds into the Biny table lamp in order to direct the light onto a surface where needed.

Vibia

New Vibia Collections

Last month we told you all about the new Vibia Guise collection and we are thrilled to share that it is now available along with 2 other brand new families and an addition to the North family.

We have been working with Vibia for many years and in that time we have seen the most beautiful design pieces released by them.

The 3 new collections are all families which all work well placed on their own or together in a space.

Guise

Vibia

The new Guise collection includes two wall versions and both horizontal and vertical pendants. The versatility of the collection allows for it to be placed over a dinning table, in a sitting room, used as office lighting and areas where a cluster of lights is needed. Designer Stefan Diez worked with Vibia to develop a collection which explored the ability of glass. The collection joins together technique and tradition with the latest technology.

Vibia

Guise uncovers a new potential for LED technology with the light source invisible, emanating directly from the material. When off its transparency makes it almost disappear and when on it gives a fluid, luminous presence.

Click here to view the Guise collection!

Musa

The new Musa family is designed by Note Design Studio based in Sweden. The Musa design is one of organic qualities and function. The delicate and elegantly designed collection includes a table, a wall and a portable version.

Vibia

The simple design creates a hint of light emitted by the small hand blown opal glass sphere which expands over the space which surrounds it.

The portable version has its own battery which can last up to 18 hours and has a push dimmer on the base making it perfect for adding a glow to a summer evening.

Click here to view the Musa collection!

Palma

Desginer Antoni Arola considers Palma as if it were a landscape project that will be transformed over time. The inspiration was to create ambience within an interior setting with a luminous hanging garden.

Vibia

The design introduces planting which is normally associated with the outdoors to an indoor setting. The collection includes a range of pendant and wall versions both with horizontal and vertical designs. In the family there are versions which have both the blown opal glass globe and the pot for a hanging plant and ones which have just the individual glass globe.

Palma has a warm dimmable integrated LED filleted by the 2 half glass spheres which are joined together by an aluminium ring in either graphite or white.

Click here to view the Palma collection!

North

The new addition to the North collection is a floor lamp which is suspended from the ceiling using an almost invisible steel cable. The light has a counterweight placed on the ground which guides the electrical cable and allows the stem and shade to be placed wherever required.

Vibia

The North family is an Arik Levy design and is elegant, varied and very adaptable. The new version adds to the family a floor light that luminously covers but does not invade the surrounding space.

Orsjo

New additions to the Orsjo Streck family

At David Village Lighting we love families of lights and we are excited to share that Swedish based design company, Orsjo have expanded their popular Streck family to now include pendant and wall versions. The new additions join the family which already include a table and floor version.

We think the family looks great when used together and helps to create a theme in any room. The floor version is one of our favourites and is great for beside a sofa for reading.

Orsjo

The sleek and elegant Streck design combines powder coated metal components with brushed brass joints. The collection features a warm glowing light both beautiful and environmentally friendly.

“Part of the way I work is very involved in how we look at things – as if we are always on a visit to a museum. Streck is the result of this – the essence of a particular type of fitting I have always loved. With just a few, very carefully selected lines, the Streck family has been given a long life.”

Lee Broom

The latest releases from Lee Broom

It’s that time of year again for the annual pilgrimage to the Milan Salone Del Mobile to see the latest in Lighting and Furniture design.

David Village Lighting always visits the show to ensure we have the best products available for our customers to choose from.

It’s an extremely busy and hot occasion, along with many showroom events in the city, and this year seemed the busiest to date.

It was great to see so many people interested in well designed products.

Lee Broom is one of the up and coming brands which we feel is both exciting and current so it is with pleasure that we present two of their new collections launched in Milan, which are now available from David Village Lighting.

The new collections are inspired by vertical and horizontal spaces, spherical forms and the refraction and reflection of light.

Lee Broom

The Eclipse range includes a pendant, a chandelier, a table lamp and a surface light.

The simple design features a mirror-polished chrome disc and an acrylic disc which interact creating a mirroring illusion. The Eclipse range works well when placed on its own or featured together.

The Orion range includes two pendant styles; one with the LED inside the tube and one with the LED inside the Globe. These connect and expand horizontally and vertically to create bespoke features, perfect for creating a statement.

We know it can be hard to add colour into your interior but we have three easy ways to add the Pantone colour of the year, Ultra Violet, into your home. During our three decades of trading a brand that we have always loved for their use of colour is Kartell. Below we show you some of our favourite ultra violet pieces from the Italian brand.

Furniture

An easy way to add a pop of colour to your interior is with furniture. Chairs are a great way to set the tone of a room. The Kartell La Marie chair is a versatile piece suiting dinning areas, dressing rooms and home or office desks.

Kartell

1. Mr impossible   2. La Marie   3. Lou Lou Ghost    4. Thalya

Lighting

Another great way to add Violet into your interior is through the lighting and in particular by using a focus pendant. Using a coloured pendant in a room brightens the space and instantly makes the room feel more inviting.  The Kartell Bloom suspension in lavender is perfect for adding a colourful hue to any room and also adds a little sparkle.

Kartell

1. Battery     2. Easy      3. Bloom

Accessories

Last but not least are accessories, a quick and easy way to instantly brighten up your space. The Kartell François Ghost mirror is great for any room where just a little colour is needed, making a simple accessory a statement piece.

Kartell

1. Sottsass Colonna  2. Componibili  3. Sottsass Calice  4. François Ghost

The Artemide Yanzi collection which was launched at Euroluce during Milan design week is now available online.

Artemide

Yanzi’s design is a mix of tradition and innovation. Chinese design studio Neri&Hu designed the collection inspired by the shapes of birds with the balancing structure their branches.

Artemide

The lightweight collection has swallows with brushed brass bodies and white glass spheres which enclose the light as their heads, resembling a bird ready for flight.

Artemide

Yanzi features a table, floor and two suspension versions all beautiful and unique.

After over 30 years of working with Artemide this is one of their most beautiful designs we have worked with, perfect for adding an elegant piece to any space.

Light Years

Light Years – New Caravaggio finishes

Since the release of the Light Years Caravaggio pendant in 2005 it has been used in residential and commercial properties across the globe and become a design icon.

We have been working with Light Years since the release and have watched it become the icon it is today.

Light Years

This Spring Light Years have released the Caravaggio in four new beautiful earthy hues; Archipelago Stone, Warm Silk, Dark Sienna and Dark Ultramarine. The new tones add depths and detail yet stay true to the classic shape of the renowned Cecilie Manz design.

The new finishes are available in P1, P2 and P3. The Dark Ultramarine and Dark Sienna cords are stone grey and the mountings are dark matt chrome, while the Archipelago Stone and Warm Silk cords are stone grey with and matt chrome mounting.

The Caravaggio gives out a concentrated downwards light whilst also illuminating the cable through the opening of the pendant.

Light Years

Archipelago Stone

Archipelago stone is a reinterpretation of the grey hues from different stones and pebbles. It is warmer than the original Caravaggio grey yet looks cooler in its appearance.

Light Years

Warm Silk

This warm, delicate soft toned silk finish of the Caravaggio enhances the silhouette of the famous shape in an understated manner.

Light Years

Dark Sienna

The Dark sienna is a deep earthy red. The matt gloss finish borders on the colour of cocoa powder giving an intense yet warm feel, perfect for darker interiors.

Light Years

Dark Ultramarine

The Dark Ultramarine finish is on the verge of being black yet with a bluish hue. During the Renaissance, ultramarine was the finest and most expensive blue pigment used by painters. The shade has a beautiful crisp matt finish and works great both in daylight and darkness.

Northern

New in from Northern

Recently Northern have released three brand new and exciting designs. Below is a little bit about each of them and how we think best to incorporate them into your home.

Fold

The new Fold pendant is a spectacular design which is structured from crisp folds that brings Japanese origami to mind.

The shade is made from wool fabric which has been laminated and is supported by an inner structure which helps hold the shape.

Northern

In addition the wool has acoustic properties that dampen ambient sound and absorb noise. From its position below the shade the lamp illuminates the patterns in the fabric and casts a downwards light.

The shade can be titled to one to help direct the light, perfect for example in a study where you may want a more directed light.

Blush

The new Blush wall light from Northern both lights up a room yet shies away from the spotlight. Blush’s shape is subtle with the details discreet.

Northern

Blush’s soft, flexible arm makes it easy to angle the shade and create a directional light, perfect for beside a bed for reading.

The light intensity can be lowered using the dimmer switch on the wall brakcet. Blush is available in either black or pink each giving a different impression.

Balancer

Balancer is the new showstopper floor lamp from Northern. Expertly crafted from black powder coated steel, Balancer offers a stunning combination of light, geometry and style.

Northern

The floor lights clean lines make the style unique and the heavy cylinder base anchors the structure firmly to the floor.

With a turn of a swivel key, the shade levers upwards or pivots downwards.  The light can be dimmed allowing Balancer to be both direct and diffused.

Balancer is great for in a study or living space where you need a more directional light.

Brokis

New Brokis Knot Small

Recently at the Maison & Objet Paris Fair Brokis presented the new Knot Small. The new addition to the Brokis family suits smaller interiors with lower ceilings.

Brokis

The original Knot collection was designed by Italian duo Chiaramonte Marin in 2016.

Back in October of last year we were invited by Brokis to visit the Janštejn Glassworks in the Czech Republic. Whilst there we got to see first hand the amazing glass blowing process and the time and attention that goes into every Knot.

Brokis

The mouth-blown glass collection is available in four shapes and finishes with a natural fibrous cord. The LED light source is housed in the top hood which is available in four metallic finishes.

&Tradition

Product Focus - &Tradition Blown Pendant

Blown pendant was Samuel Wilkinson’s first lamp for &tradition and was released in 2013.

The mouth-blown glass pendant has a quilted pattern and comes in two versions: translucent with a silver lustre and sandblasted white.

&Tradition

The pendant was created to explore reflections, distortions and refractions of a light source when surrounded by patterned glass.

Wilkinson looked for inspiration in seeds and berries in particular raspberries for the quilted texture.

Blown makes a great statement piece but works equally as well in cluster. The two versions cater to a range of interiors, with the sandblasted version providing a subtle, sophisticated glow, while the translucent version transforms the space with the intricate textures and patterning.

&Tradition

“Like with any project, you start with an idea, and then you start looking at the world through a sort of filter. I’ve looked at antique ceramics, old glass pieces, lenses from very old lamps, lighthouses, even a mirrored bottle, just to see the way the light comes off it.”

New Vibia Guise Collection

New Vibia Guise Collection

Vibia have teamed up with German designer Stefan Diez for one of their latest collections, Guise.

New Vibia Guise Collection

The collection includes a series of glass lamps which feature glowing etched patterns and edges. Diez worked with Vibia to develop a lighting collection which explored the ability of glass. He began by testing different materials such as paper and PVC. Diez found glass to be the most reflective material to use.

New Vibia Guise Collection

Each of the lamps feature a strip of concealed LEDs that shine through the glass catching the edges and the patterns etched into it. Despite the collection not yet released it has already been chosen as a recipient of the 2018 German Design Awards.

New Vibia Guise Collection

The collection is expected to be released in April and will include wall and suspension versions. Keep an eye on our social media for more about the release or click here to view the Vibia range!

RIBA Directory

We were recently featured in The Royal Institute of British Architects - The List 18.

David Village Lighting

The highly renowned directory includes award winning projects from across the UK and an index list of RIBA’s charted architect and practises.

They featured Artemis Barn, a project we worked on with architects, Chiles Evans and Care. We worked together to create a lighting scheme which accentuated the barns high ceilings and created a light comforting feel.

The suspension was originally designed for museum lighting and combines the aesthetic charm of an old-time object with modern technology and engineering.

The suspension has an integrated LED which provides a downwards light. Unterlinden is available in aluminium or antique brass and comes with a technopolymer ceiling rose.

The Unterlinden family is soon to grow with the release of the Unterlinden table. Keep an eye on our blog for all you need to know.

Moooi

New Moooi Meshmatics Chandelier

Moooi have recently released their latest Chandelier, Meshmatics. The Chandelier is designed by Rick Tegelaar, a product design graduate from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in The Netherlands.

Moooi

The Meshmatics Chandelier is made from wire netting which has been stretched to form a thin and flexible material which then creates the three layers.

The clever wire mesh structure reflects and diffuses the integrated LED light and contributes to keeping the light source cool by absorbing some of it heat.

The playful light cascades down the chandeliers frame creating a beautiful simmering reflection and casts an elaborate net of shadows onto the ceiling.

Louis Poulsen

New Louis Poulsen Panthella Mini Chrome Table

Louis Poulsen

Back in 1971 Verner Panton worked with Louis Poulsen to develop the iconic Panthella. The design was created to shape light and gently illuminate its surroundings to create an ideal ambience. The Panthella range has become one of Louis Poulsen’s best selling lights and in 2016 they developed the Panthella Mini to fit smaller spaces.

Now Louis Poulsen has released a Chrome finish of the compact Panthella Mini to bring Panton’s original vision of a metal Panthella to life. The chrome shade mirrors and playfully distorts its surroundings.

Louis Poulsen

The Panthella Mini features a built in LED and has an inline dimmer included on the cable. The light also features a timer that can be set to turn the lamp off after 4 or 8 hours.

The Panthella Mini’s smaller design makes it perfect on window sills, shelves, tables and other small surfaces.

“When Verner Panton originally developed the Panthella lamp with Louis Poulsen in 1971, he wanted the design to have a metal shade, which was technologically impossible at the time.”

“In 2016, we were able to make his vision a reality when we first launched the Panthella MINI with metal shades painted in bold colours from Panton’s own palette. Now, working closely with the Panton family, we have pushed Panton’s vision even further with an actual metallised finish. So the design retains its iconic form, but also gains an entirely new expression and becomes engaged in conversation with everything and everyone around it.”

Rasmus Markholt, Design Manager at Louis Poulsen
