Designed in 2006 by Marc Sadler, the Twiggy floor lamp became an instant classic. The inspiration for this iconic design? The flexibility of a fishing rod - evident in the slender yet sturdy stem of the Twiggy which allows for its impressive reach, created using cleverly concealed counterweights. The flexible stem sits on a slim flat base which makes it easy to slide under a sofa or table if required.
Perfect for both home and office, Twiggy adds both flair and functionality, providing direct overhead lighting without glare as its lamps are hidden behind a diffuser. Not just a downlight, a soft reflective glow is also emitted through the transparency of the upper disc.
Twiggy’s height can be adjusted to three different levels by using the two counterweights which are disguised from view in the shade. Additional stem sets further extend its height and increase its reach from 170 – 200cm. Adjustable height and reach gives Twiggy versatility making it an ideal floor light in many different spaces: over a desk, dining table, bed, sofa or armchair.
“Create and define a personal space, a welcoming area, where you can relax and feel at home even if you are far away.” Carlo Urbinati, President of Foscarini.
The Twiggy floor lamp is available to view in our brand new showroom: David Village Lighting, The Old Cinema, 5-13 Ashgate Road, Broomhill, Sheffield, S10 3BZ.
In the world of the Twiggy, bigger is always better! In 2015, the thin, flexible feature of the original Twiggy became “oversized” in Twice as Twiggy, a floor lamp designed for large spaces, without foregoing lightness. Twice as Twiggy is a perfect addition, as a statement piece, in a large commercial space or design studio.
“Twice as Twiggy is a colossal version of the floor lamp Twiggy, designed by Marc Sadler: an iconic piece and a space-defining lighting object,” Carlo Urbinati, President of Foscarini.
As part of New York City’s Design Week, Foscarini used their Twice as Twiggy floor lamp in their aptly named photography project: ‘Twice Light’. The project, captured by photographer Gianluca Vassallo, invited New Yorkers, two strangers, to meet together on the street under a Foscarini Twice as Twiggy.
“Under the overarching presence and warm glow of Twice as Twiggy, people were enveloped within its magical cone of light and, like thrown in a new dimension, they had the possibility to create an intimate and private zone even in a public and hectic space as the City of New York” Carlo Urbinati, President of Foscarini.

Formed in 2002, the talented and untrained designer Tom Dixon created a brand under his own name to research and develop his industrial lighting & furniture designs. Some of Tom Dixon’s bestselling items are his earlier and most iconic pieces.
“I was involved in an initiative in Jaipur to create alternative possibilities for the rapidly vanishing craftsmen and their skills, and the Beat Light was born from that project” - Tom Dixon. Created and inspired by the traditional brass work of the Northern Indian craftsman of Moradabad, Tom Dixon introduced these skills into his own collection. The Beat lights feature elements such as spun, braised and beaten brass, all formed by hand to make each pendant unique.
Available in four shapes: stout, tall, fat and wide, as well as four colourways.
The Variety in size and colour makes for a dynamic and personal display of Beat lights, ideal in a linear formation over a dining table, or as a cluster over a kitchen island.
The Beat family has grown over the years due to its huge popularity, expanding to table, wall and floor lamps.
In 2015, Milan’s Salone del Mobile exhibition saw an exciting array of new and experimental lighting designs, Melt was the star! During the exhibition Tom Dixon even performed with his band under a glowing canopy of Melt pendants.
Melt resembles two pendants by Tom Dixon (Mirror ball & Copper round) which have been melted to produce this new unique design. The Melt pendants take on a warped effect in the vacuum process, a key feature being the opaque metal finish when not illuminated, then glowing transparency when lit.
Tom Dixon’s Melt light makes the perfect cluster feature due to its irregular shape, staggering the small and large size at varied heights has a very engaging effect.
As we settle into 2019, we look forward to seeing the ever-changing trends and up-coming inventions from the creative mind of Tom Dixon. Shop Tom Dixon’s best selling lighting and keep an eye out for more exciting releases on the David Village Lighting website.

Here at David Village Lighting, we are celebrating 6 decades of the iconic Louis Poulsen collection by taking a look at some of their most memorable pieces. Imagined by the legendary Poul Henningsen, this classic collection was a groundbreaking step in technological innovation. With that, let’s take a walk down memory lane and commemorate the history of the PH collection.
One of most notable and popular piece from Louis Poulsen, the world of premium lighting was changed when the PH5 was imagined. Whether turned on or off, this pendant light interacts seamlessly with a variety of interiors, creating a visually stunning, engaging, unified focal point. Due to its popularity, Louis Poulsen has designed the infamous mini and various colours hues. This allows the PH5 to be entirely transferrable into any interior.
One of their very original designs was the PH Snowball, which is an eye-catching artistic piece that maintains its modernist, minimalistic chic that made it so iconic. This collection is so memorable that it still continues to be a popular piece, even decades after its inception. This is mainly due to its unique shape, with 8 shades being mounted on 3 legs; a glossy top (creating sparkling light) and a matte underside (avoiding reflection). The shape ensures all sides are illuminated, creating optimum, lighting performance but shielding inhabitants from any glare.
Drawing attention with it’s organic form, the PH Artichoke was first designed for the Langelinie Pavilloen restaurant in Copenhagen, but was so popular it has quicklybecome a must have for any contemporary space. Oozing elegance and ambience, the PH Artichoke consists of 72 lovingly crafted “leaves” that protect the light source, redirecting the light to create a distinct, unique effect. The leaves, when both lit and unlit, create an elegant “ice look” that brings lightness to any space. Reflecting its extreme popularity, the range has been expanded to include a variety of sizes and colours.
Invest in your very own piece of Louis Poulsen history at David Village Lighting.

Send yourself into a peaceful slumber…
Bedroom lighting is an important aspect of your personal space, get it right and your room will be transformed into an area of tranquillity.
Lightyears Night Owl: £112.20
A diffused or indirect light source is ideal for the bedside to promote a relaxing atmosphere. There is no risk of glare or over-exposure, let your eyes re-adjust for the evening to set the tone for restful sleep or peaceful time for reflection. We would recommend lamps with frosted or opal glass diffusers, creating a soft glowing effect. In-direct light can be an effective design feature to create a good amount of light but shield the eyes from the unwanted brightness.
Flos IC Low Table: £289.00
Choosing the amount of light you need: What do you realistically require the light for? Do you need a bit of extra light for basic tasks such as reading or do you purely use your space for rest? If you need a little versatility then a lamp with a dimmer function will suit perfectly.
Marset Dipping Lamp: £192.98
The third and final contributing factor to choosing a Bedroom light is size. Will this fit by your bedside? Is it a design feature or a subtle implement? Space can sometimes be an issue within the bedroom, to which many people turn to the wall light for a savvy solution.
Vibia Pin wall: £228.89

The new refined Winkel
The new w127 Winkel is a developed version of Wastberg’s award winning and best selling task light originally introduced in 2012.
Wastberg have worked hard to refine some key areas of the lamp such as the mechanics, and operation and of course the light source.
The w127 is the result of a collaboration between Wästberg, the Berlin-based designer Dirk Winkel and the Gemany-based chemical company BASF. They spent more than three years developing what they consider the most refined task light ever seen.
The w127 winkel challenges the perception of plastic, going further than the norm, not only in terms of function and looks, but also in terms of the feel and tactility of the material. No second skin, no paint coat; the true, bold material in its pure form.
It is based on over 60% biologically sourced and recyclable material from the castor plant. This represents a step ahead by setting the course for producing independently of mineral oil based plastics.

Established in 2009 CoeLux have created a unique lighting system which reproduces the true effect of natural sunlight entering through an opening in the integrated ceiling, with a realistic sun perceived at infinite distance surrounded by a clear deep blue sky.
David Village Lighting is very excited to now be working with Coelux and bring you the experience of the sky. We are always looking to work with the latest technology and we love the CoeLux design so much we are installing an integrated panel into our new Broomhill, Sheffield showroom.
The beautiful skylight look is achieved thanks to the comprehensive work carried on by an interdisciplinary team of researchers in the field of optical physics, numerical modelling, chemistry, material science, architecture and design.
CoeLux combines three key elements: the latest LED technology which reproduces the sunlight’s spectrum; a sophisticated optical system that creates the sensation of the distance between the sky and the sun; and nanostructured materials, only a few millimeters thick, which recreate the entire Rayleigh scattering process which occurs in the atmosphere.
“CoeLux lighting systems reproduce a virtual experience of the sun and sky; especially in a below-ground environment, the effect is so powerful that it may radically change our perception of reality. It allows us to rediscover natural light in the real world in a totally new and surprising way”.
Prof. Paolo Di Trapani, company founder and CEO

Grok was created in 1998 and is a part of the LEDS-C4 group which has been designing and producing lights for interior and exterior design projects for over 4 decades. David Village Lighting has been working with Grok for many years on projects but we now introduce Grok to buy online as we think the range is also great for residential interiors.
Grok embodies a way of understanding and interacting with one another that is based on intuition and empathy.
When they were first established they made a commitment to create a contemporary product line that would decorate and build spaces through attractive design and they believe there is a light perfectly suited to each room, each activity and each individual.

New Equatore collection from
At David Village Lighting we pride ourselves on supplying the best in modern lighting and we love it when a new release sees a classic design modernised.
The new Equatore collection by Fontana Arte is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic lamp with a glass shade.
While the traditional Gabriele e Oscar Buratti design uses the shade to contain the light source the shade is suggestively empty.
The light is produced by the LEDs and thanks to internal screens arranged in layers, is distributed regularly across the surface of the discs, magically illuminating them.
The lower disk directs the light output downwards and the upper one illuminates the glass cap for a soft, diffused light.
The Equatore family includes a table, floor and suspension and is available in two finishes; a cooler version in grey with a dark chrome frame, and a warmer version with a transparent pink cap and a copper-coloured frame.

New in from Prandina
Prandina, founded in 1982 focus mainly on the use of blown glass and creating lights which are always different and innovative.
David Village Lighting, founded in 1981 loves working with Prandina as they create beautiful glass pieces which stand out elegantly in a room. The quality of the Italian hand made glass is second to none.
Here we introduce the first phase of three which sees new and exciting families added to Prandina’s collection.
They have explored new ideas for the use of blown glass and creation of products with a timeless design; they have also investigated the study of new and alternative materials.
The Santachiara Table is an addition the existing collection with an ash wood base and diffuser in opal white blown glass which gives out a diffused light.

The Iconic Muuto Under The Bell
David Village Lighting loves Iconic designs and the Muuto Under The Bell is one of our favourites.
We love the multi-functional pendant lamp as the design not only provides an ambient light but also enhances the acoustics of the room.
A large sheet of recycled plastic felt is heated in a mould and pressed into shape. Available in black and grey, the lamp blends effortlessly into open spaces. The Bell is an example of modern design with hints to Scandinavian values.
“Under The Bell is not just a lampshade. When hung over a table or in an open environment it creates its own space within the bigger space. That way, the lamp embraces and shelters the table and people beneath it - both physically and in a more abstract sense. The recycled plastic felt even absorbs sound and helps improve the acoustics of your room.”

The iconic Kartell Master chair
After many years of working with Kartell the iconic Master chair is still our best seller from their collection.
The Masters chair is a powerful tribute to three symbolic chairs, interpreted by the creative genius of Philippe Starck.
The unmistakable silhouettes of the "Series 7" by Arne Jacobsen, the "Tulip Armchair" by Eero Saarinen and the "Eiffel Chair" by Charles Eames are interwoven into a hybrid giving life to a fusion of original and engaging styles.
The Masters is light, practical and stackable and can be used outdoors.
The Masters chair was honoured with the prestigious "2010 Good Design Award" presented by the Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design and the 2013 Red Dot Design Award.
